It has been a wonderful term here in Third Class. We’ve had fabulous weather, exciting events and spectacular learning!
With the lovely weather we’ve had the opportunity to bring our classroom outdoors. It was great being able to enjoy the beautiful local environment while doing our maths and English lessons. We feel very privileged to have such comprehensive outdoor spaces with benches, canopies and creative areas. A huge thank you to Olivia and Matt who spent a lot of their holidays in the school this year making these spaces a reality!
We also had an excellent school tour to Spike Island this term. It was really wonderful going on this tour with 5th Class and getting to learn about the history of the island. We even discovered that one of our student’s grandfathers was born on the island as his father was a chef in the prison at the time.
We’re very grateful to the amazing volunteers who lead gardening sessions for each class in the school in two separate gardens throughout the year. It has been an absolute pleasure going to the gardens and learning all about wonderful things that happen there.
This term had a strong focus on Irish and everyone rose to the challenge. We spent a lot of time reading Irish readers, reading aloud to peers, making comics of the books and then, sharing the books with our junior classes. It was very special watching the children reading their Irish books to the younger children and seeing the excitement that everyone felt.
Finally, everyone in Third Class would like to say a huge thank you to Clara who, yet again, organising a fantastic active week and Sports Day. It’s difficult to describe the amount of work that goes into organising such things and while Clara always plays it down, we know she has bent over backwards to make these experiences truly memorable for all of the children in South Lee. For that, we are truly grateful!
It has been a very special year and while endings are always sad, there’s excitement for a new beginning coming again in September.
As they say, the only constant in life is change so here’s to enjoying the moment and leaning into the change.
Until September,
Le grá,
Caitríona, Grace and all the wonderful children of Third Class
