As we come to the end of a wonderful final term in 4th Class, we can look back with great pride on all that we have learned, created and achieved together. One of the standout experiences of the term was our involvement in the inspiring Tools of the Trade project, a cross-curricular and multidisciplinary initiative that brought together Science, Art and a range of professions. Working alongside experts including artists Leah and Susie, marine biologist Dr Louise Firth and Soli Levi from UCC, the children explored the fascinating project The Living Sea Wall in Cobh. This unique opportunity encouraged curiosity, creativity and a deeper appreciation of the natural world. Our literacy work this term was equally impressive. The children carefully crafted procedural writing based on their experience of making delicious Venezuelan arepas, filled with melting butter and cheese. They also demonstrated their ability to communicate effectively through persuasive texts and eye-catching posters, while their imaginative narrative writing transported readers to wonderfully creative worlds. We were fortunate to enjoy beautiful musical performances from some of our classmates, whose piano and harp recitals showcased not only their talent but also their dedication and confidence. A particular highlight of the term was our fundraising bake sale. The enthusiasm, teamwork and generosity shown by the children made it a tremendous success and reflected the strong sense of community within our class. Our Student Council representatives also played an important role in encouraging participation in this year’s Readathon, helping to make it one of our most successful yet. Sports Week brought great excitement and plenty of laughter. We challenged ourselves with ultimate frisbee, welly throwing and circuits, while the morning disco quickly became a firm favourite. It proved such a joyful start to the day that many pupils have suggested it should become a regular school tradition! In Visual Arts, we learned about Georges Seurat and the technique of pointillism, using our new knowledge to create beautiful mini canvases for Father’s Day. The children also explored block printing on fabric before carefully stitching their creations into handmade gift bags, resulting in thoughtful and unique gifts for their dads. To mark World Earth Day, we carried out an experiment investigating the challenges of cleaning up an oil spill. This hands-on activity helped us better understand the impact of environmental disasters and the importance of protecting our planet. Throughout the term, the children have demonstrated creativity, kindness, perseverance and enthusiasm in everything they have undertaken. They have supported one another, embraced new challenges and created memories that will stay with them long after 4th Class has ended. It has been a privilege to watch them grow and flourish, and they should be immensely proud of all they have accomplished this term. We wish them a happy, restful summer and look forward to seeing all the wonderful things they will achieve in the year ahead.
