Term 2 in Junior Infants

What an exciting and busy term we’ve had in Junior Infants! Here’s a little look back at some of the wonderful things we’ve been learning:

We began the term by exploring the world of animals and the important role of the vet. Our classroom transformed into a busy veterinary clinic, complete with a surgery room, waiting room, patients (our stuffed animals), receptionists, and very caring vets! The children loved taking turns diagnosing, bandaging, and caring for their furry friends while learning new vocabulary and practicing their empathy skills.

Springtime was the perfect opportunity to dig into our next topic – the garden centre! We had lots of fun adventuring around the school grounds searching for signs of spring – birds singing, buds on trees, and pretty bunches of bright daffodils! The children explored the life cycle of plants, learned the names of tools and flowers, and even planted their own seeds to take care of. Our classroom garden centre was full of green-fingered gardeners ready to pot, water, and care for their plants with great enthusiasm.

Most recently, we have been turning our attention to heroes in our community – firefighters! We’ve been reading rescue stories and making the most of the sunny weather by drawing chalky fire scenes on the yard and extinguishing the fires with buckets of water! We can’t wait to continue learning about fire safety after our spring break.

This week we celebrated Earth Day, which officially falls on April 22nd. We made litterbugs out of recycled materials brought in from home and helped the Green Schools Committee to clean up litter around our school. We really do love taking care of the environment in Junior Infants!

I hope you all have a restful spring break and we look forward to all the fun and learning that lies ahead in term 3!
