Term 2 in First Class

I don’t know where this term has gone, it has absolutely flown by! We have had a wonderfully busy and exciting few months in First Class.

In English, we have been working hard on our writing and have explored a variety of genres, including recount and report writing. The children have shown great creativity and enthusiasm in sharing their ideas. In Maths, we have been developing our skills in adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, as well as measuring and creating and extending patterns. We have also been learning about movement in shapes and enjoyed creating underwater tessellation art.

Some of our SESE work has focused on the weather this term. We learned about how we record weather and the important contributions of Anders Celsius and Francis Beaufort. The children even kept their own weather diaries, observing and recording daily changes and presented the weather as weather forecasters. During Forest School, we continued learning about native Irish animals, including the butterfly, hare and dolphin. The children love exploring the outdoors and connecting their learning to nature, no matter the weather!

Most of all, this term has been about coming together as a whole school community. We really enjoyed celebrating Friendship February, taking part in Seachtain na Gaeilge, and being part of our amazing production of Matilda the Musical. These events created wonderful memories for everyone.

It has been a fantastic term full of learning, creativity and fun. We are looking forward to another exciting term ahead!
