Term 2 has been a wonderfully busy and memorable time in 2nd Class, filled with learning, laughter, and lots of new experiences. From exploring new topics to strengthening friendships and stepping outside our usual routines, the children have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and positivity. Here are just some of the highlights from a fantastic term together!
We had great fun diving into Space during our SESE lessons. The children were fascinated as we explored the wonders of the universe, with a particular highlight being when we watched real footage of the first moon landing. We were amazed to think that, at the time, this may have been the very first thing many people had ever seen on a television set!
Our weekly swimming lessons in Leisureworld were another firm favourite. While lots of progress was made in the pool, it’s safe to say that the sing songs on the bus to and from swimming were just as much of a highlight. The energy, enthusiasm, and sense of fun made these trips extra special.
We were also very lucky to take part in basketball workshops with the CSN students. The children thoroughly enjoyed developing their skills while building lovely connections with the students. We are always sad to see their term end before ours and are so grateful for the time, patience, and encouragement they share with us.
February brought a special focus on kindness and connection during Friendship February. For the first time, we stepped into the role of older buddies, which the children took very seriously. We explored what it means to be a role model and to look out for others. Activities included making friendship bracelets, drawing portraits of one another, enjoying show and tell, and pairing up for some free play. It was a lovely reminder of the importance of kindness, empathy, and inclusion.
Seachtain na Gaeilge was another highlight, with a fantastic effort made by everyone to use as much Irish as possible throughout the week when speaking. The children were eager to be named “Gaeilgeoir an Lae” and really challenged themselves to give it their best. A standout moment was learning “Ireland’s Call” as Gaeilge and proudly belting it out in the yard for all to hear!
Of course, we cannot talk about Term 2 without mentioning the true highlight – our school production of Matilda the Musical. After weeks of rehearsals, it was incredible to see everything come together in two fantastic performances. As the choir, 2nd Class brought such energy and enthusiasm to the show. One of our favourite daily questions to ask Ali quickly became, “Are we going to Caitríona’s today for choir?” While our usual routines may have gone a little out the window at times, the confidence, teamwork, and joy that came from being part of such a special production made it all more than worthwhile. We will rest well over the Spring break after that one!
Well done to all the children for a brilliant term I am so proud of everything they have achieved!
