South Lee’s inaugural STEM Week celebration was a great success. For Maths Monday Senior Infants partnered up with 2nd class to complete an outdoor Maths trail. We welcomed guest speakers from various technology organisations and companies in Cork including Stryker and Pepsi. A big thank you to Emil’s Dad, of UCC, for visiting Senior Infants to teach them all about robotics. Each class enjoyed a presentation on the benefits of composting from Waste Down as well as demonstration of our composter. In second class they learnt all about coding in a fun hands on way using ‘Junior Coding’. Principal Olivia lead the Paper Aeroplane challenge where all the children channelled their inner engineers to create and test their designs in this whole school event. A big congratulations to Dylan for winning the title as ‘Star Engineer’. On Thursday the children carried out some spooky science experiments. Each class using technology to create a spooky science video which we shared with each other at assembly.
Here at South Lee STEM is an extremely important aspect of each and every day and we were very happy to further promote it further in this fun and exciting event. A big thank you to Olivia for organising!
