September Highlights

Hello everyone!

We were so excited to be reunited after our super summer breaks and we have to share some highlights from our first month back!

Our class has gotten outside as often as possible to observe the changing seasons, and take advantage of any nice weather!  There is a new swing in a section of the yard that our students have been enjoying, and we continue with our daily routine of exercises and morning meeting to start our day off. We have tried some new exercises and began practicing different kinds of stretches to build on our basic movements with some more challenging ones, and we still utilize the astro for PE activities that may need some space.  Several times we have walked around for a relaxing movement break–and a couple of times we made a point to take note of the “flora and fauna” in our area for some art and class discussion upon our return.

We have read some lovely stories this month. In our Starlight books, there have been some stories about Irish folktales, myths, and legends and some journal accounts of fun outdoor activities.  We have used these stories to practice our vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension each week.  We also read a different book just before home time each day. We have tried some new ones but also gone back to some of our favorites from last year!

In maths, we are learning how to identify and classify different kinds of lines and angles, and we have also studied graphs and data. We made our own bar charts recording destinations from Cork airport. Finally, it was a birthday month in our class too! We celebrated Izzy turning 9 years old, and Brian’s class were kind enough to make cards for her and come by for a short celebration.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot–we got a foosball table for the classroom as a back to school surprise too!  Check it out here with some other pictures from this past month:
