We have had a busy two months since our midterm break. We made it off campus for two school tours–one to Mallow Castle and one to Charles Fort–and we have been spending a lot of time working together with mainstream 3rd and 4th classes for both social and academic activities! A few of our students participated in group projects about the solar system with 3rd class and did fantastic work integrating into their classroom and collaborating with the partners for creation/presentation.
In literacy, we have each made personal bios to help facilitate a pen pal activity in the new year. We have read several stories and practiced vocabulary and writing sentences to show our comprehension. We also have recently focused on adjectives for grammar, and we used those and other parts of speech to create some amusing “Madlibs”.
In our own science studies, we have discussed how the sun and the earth’s rotation around it create the seasons and change both the quantity and intensity of the sunlight we receive during different parts of the year. In maths, we are well into our multiplication unit and preparing to exercise our facts after studying groups, arrays, and repeated addition! It has been great to see such eager learning in these areas, and happy faces during the many other moments we had as we closed out the first time. Among other things, we enjoyed a spelling bee, drawing competitions, weekly sports days, castle art displays, winter wonderland arts and crafts, trips to the library, hot chocolate at Lulu’s, and a bit of Irish too!
Hope everyone has a fabulous winter break and see you again in the New Year!
