What a busy and brilliant term it has been in 2nd Class! From the moment we returned in January to begin the new calendar year, there has been no shortage of excitement, learning, and laughter in our classroom.
One of the biggest highlights was settling into our brand new classroom. We took great pride in making it our own – decorating the space, setting up cosy reading corners, and creating colourful displays to brighten up the walls. It truly feels like home now!
This term, we also begun our swimming lessons, which proved to be a huge hit! The bus journeys alone were full of fun and chatter, and the lessons themselves helped us to build confidence in the water while keeping active.
As part of our wellbeing focus, we had the pleasure of bi-weekly yoga sessions with our wonderful teacher, Karen. She guided us through exercises that helped us tune into our feelings and taught us how to care for our minds and bodies. These peaceful moments have become a real favourite in our days and weeks.
In the classroom, we’ve been busy exploring all sorts of curriculum areas. In Maths, we got hands-on with time and measurement, turning lessons into real-life learning. In English, we followed procedural writing and even got to put it into action by making Rice Krispie buns and fruit smoothies – delicious learning in every sense!
Friendship February was a very special time in our class. We buddied up with Junior Infants for reading sessions and celebrated World Book Day together also. Some of us are still proudly wearing the friendship bracelets we made – a lovely reminder of the kindness and connection we shared.
We also took a step back in time to learn about school in the olden days, interviewing grown-ups to hear what classrooms were like long ago. It was fascinating to compare their experiences to ours! As part of our exploration of schools around the world, we also heard first-hand stories from some of our very own classmates about their school experiences in France, Spain, and India – giving us a real insight into how children learn in different parts of the world
We’ve also enjoyed some of our new yard games, adding even more fun to our playtimes. And in keeping with the spring theme, we got our hands dirty planting cress and peas as part of the SuperValu Grow Your Own initiative. We were also enthusiastic participants in the whole-school Spring Clean, showing great pride in caring for our environment.
Term 2 flew by, we can’t wait to see what term 3 has in store!
