In 2nd Class, we began the term by settling in and getting to know one another, taking time to build friendships and create a happy, inclusive classroom where everyone feels safe, valued and ready to learn. Through lots of fun activities, teamwork and laughter, we quickly grew into a close class community, setting a positive tone for a very busy and enjoyable term.
Once we were settled, we got stuck into our learning across all areas of the curriculum. In literacy, we have been really enjoying the interactive elements of our UFLI programme, which is new to us this year. The hands-on and engaging approach has supported our reading and spelling skill. In maths, we explored time and loved getting creative by making our own manipulative clocks, which helped us to deepen our understanding in a practical and meaningful way. In Gaeilge, we have been working hard on broadening our comhrá skills, growing in confidence as we practice speaking and using new vocabulary in everyday situations.
PE has been a real highlight this term. We were delighted to welcome yoga back to our timetable, helping us to develop balance, strength and mindfulness. We also thoroughly enjoyed our basketball workshops, delivered in collaboration with the sports students from the nearby college. An exciting opportunity that had everyone active, engaged and smiling.
In SESE, we have loved learning about the world around us and celebrating differences. Earlier in the term, we learned about Diwali from some of our school peers, gaining insight into its traditions and meaning. We also had great fun playing traditional Halloween games, mixing learning with lots of laughter. One of the biggest highlights of the term was W’intercultural Week, where we explored Christmas traditions from around the world, learned about Hanukkah and celebrated the many cultures and traditions represented within our own classroom. The week concluded with our wonderful W’intercultural Fair, where we tasted some delicious treats and celebrated together.
Another exciting highlight was STEM Week, during which we stepped into different roles each day — becoming scientists, IT whizzes, engineers and mathematicians. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the class was fantastic, and we were especially thrilled to welcome visitors from Pepsi, who brought along VR headsets for us to experience — a truly memorable learning opportunity!
Overall, it has been a term filled with learning, laughter, creativity and collaboration. The children have shown great enthusiasm, kindness and resilience, and it has been a joy to see their confidence and skills grow. With such a strong start to the year behind us, we can’t wait to see what the next term will bring!
